Armed with a shiny new stationery folder—which contained a real, non-cardboard ruler, a big notebook, a small notebook, and a stack of sticky notes—morale was at an all-time high. To top off this absolute peak of academic readiness, my long-awaited kiltmaking book finally arrived!
Welcome to day three of researching pleats and attempting math. Honestly, I cannot wait to be an absolute wizard at this by the end of the journey.
Oh, and because my self-control in the planning phase is completely non-existent, I also happened to spot a vintage, hand-cranked Singer sewing machine online... and promptly treated myself to it. If I'm going to commit to the bit of making a heritage garment, it would be rude not to have it.
With my new arsenal of stationery and the anticipation of my antique machine arriving, it was time to head back to the battlefield (the remainder of my pillowcase). Back to measuring, marking, and drawing lines, but today I attempted a brand-new structural method: tucking a three-inch depth underneath a one-inch visible fold.
I felt it went incredibly well. In fact, I managed to knock out eight perfect pleats today in a staggering twenty minutes—a massive glow-up considering attempt number one took me hours. Riding high on a serious bundle of confidence, I immediately started researching permanent stitching and baste stitching.
After deep-diving into video tutorials, it was time to return to the pillowcase once more and get stuck in.
I am currently waiting for my newly stitched and basted pillowcase to cool down after its latest intense meeting with my new best friend, the iron. Stay tuned to see if today’s batch stayed sober, or if they’re heading back to the pub!
