So, after a very busy two weeks, I am officially back to my kilt adventure.
My new tartan print fabric finally arrived. I ordered a total of 9 meters because the website was running a deal on 3-meter squares. Naturally, it arrived in three separate pieces as expected, but "squares" is an understatement—each piece is massive enough to cover my double bed with room to spare.
The next puzzle to solve was wrestling this yardage into the correct size. I folded one of the giant squares in half, measured out the length I actually needed, and started cutting. But right after successfully converting one massive square into two nearly two-meter rectangles, I got entirely sidetracked. Because obviously, instead of focusing on the mountain of pleats ahead of me, I decided now was the perfect time to make the girls at work some tartan makeup bags as a leaving present. Standard sewing behavior, really.
My actual plan, however, is to tackle the other two giant squares of fabric and cut them to length as well. Then, I’ll enlist the help of my trusty sewing machine to join them all together into one glorious, continuous, 8-yard strip of tartan-esque fabric. After that? It’s back to reclaiming the living room floor for the ultimate test of patience: measuring, pleating, and pinning.
